Pass it along — it’s free, and it might be exactly what a family you know is searching for right now.

What’s on it

  • What to check, area by area, marked OK or fix
  • Who will do each fix, and by when
  • A short health check for the next doctor’s visit
  • A plan for what happens if your parent falls and no one is there

How to use it

Walk through the home with your parent. Check each item, note what needs fixing, and decide together who will do it.

Start with the bathroom and the nighttime path. A weekend overhaul can feel like an invasion, so go one change at a time.

Where it comes from

This tool comes from Chapter 8, “Making Home Safer,” of When Mom or Dad Can No Longer Manage Alone by Mark Duda. The chapter covers how to make a parent’s home safer.
